A native of Ogallala, Nebraska, Mendenhall was a four-year starter for the University of Kansas volleyball team and worked for 20 years for the University of Nebraska in several administrative leadership positions. These roles included 12 years in Husker Athletics as Head Volleyball Coach John Cook’s first director of volleyball operations at Nebraska for four years when the team compiled a record of 128-9; senior associate athletics director, overseeing $70+ million in annual donations and ticket sales; executive director of the 25,000-member Nebraska Alumni Association for six years; and the chancellor’s director of external engagement where she completed her tenure at the university. |

F Street is still closed in front of the recycling drop-off due to road construction. Please approach the drop off from the East (144th side) and drive around the barricades. It is still open and they plan on recycling from there.

Jeff Barnes is a fifth-generation Nebraskan and long-time student and writer of Great Plains history. A former newspaper reporter and editor, he is the author of eight books of Great Plains subjects, including two winners of the Nebraska Book Award. His newest book is Forts of the Northern Plains, published last year by the University of Nebraska Press and which he has available today. His topic today in on the forts of our immediate area. Jeff is among the most frequently requested speakers of Humanities Nebraska, and is the first of its speakers to present in all 93 Nebraska counties. Since beginning as a public speaker in 2008, Jeff has made more than 900 appearances for groups in ten states. Jeff is a past trustee of the Nebraska State Historical Society, a present trustee of the Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation, past chair of the Nebraska Hall of Fame Commission, and former marketing director of the Durham Museum. |

Randy’s career has involved broadcasting, telecommunications, higher education, church leadership and public corporation leadership. He finished his formal education in 1982 with a Ph.D. in higher education leadership but has never stopped learning. Most recently, Randy worked with Leadership Lincoln, serves on the Lincoln Foundry Intern Advisory Panel for Nebraska, is a past president of Rotary 14, was the original licensee of TEDxLincoln, and founding partner of the Nebraska Storytelling Festival. Of personal note Randy’s been married to Jan for 57 years, they raised 3 sons, celebrated the birth of 15 grandchildren and now are enjoying 11 GREAT grandchildren. He continues to teach at Nebraska Wesleyan, serves on the University of Nebraska President’s Advisory Council and is a member of the board of Junior Achievement of Lincoln. For an old guy, Randy is considered technologically advanced and connected. He’s active on Threads, Instagram, Bluesky, Facebook, Linkedin, Be Real, and a variety of other services. Some fun things about Randy are that he’s been in all 50 states, participated in a week-long rafting trip through the Grand Canyon and he regularly connects online with friends from the TEDx world. |

Aaron is a financial adviser who joined Heritage Financial Services, a financial planning firm dedicated to providing investment management and strategic wealth management for individuals, families, and small businesses, in 2006. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Human Resource Management from the University of Nebraska Omaha. He has earned his Chartered Financial Consultant and Retirement Income Certified Professional designations. Aaron has been serving as a board member for the past 9 years and currently leads the Development committee where he is responsible for evaluating and promoting fundraising, event planning and awareness initiatives. He is married to Kristyn and together they have 7 kids ranging from almost 21 to almost 10. My hobbies include escaping twice a year with my wife leaving the kids for a few days, taking family vacations and drinking the Husker Football Kool aid each year. |
